First European Biogas Association Poster Award

The First European Biogas Association Poster Award goes to Lucy Culleton

Fernando Perez-Sanz

GERG Young Researcher's Prize awarded to Fernando Perez-Sanz

Fernando Perez-Sanz studied Chemical Engineering at the University of Valladolid, Spain, and is now working at PTB, Germany, on the EMRP ENG54 Metrology for Biogas project, thanks to a Research Mobility Grant. He is developing an isothermal gas calorimeter, which was invented by Yuri Alexandrov more than 10 years ago, to be used with biogas. This calorimeter can perform better than the current commercial calorimeters, providing a lower uncertainty, being easily controlled and requiring no calibration. Fernando says: "It is challenging work, but I am confident that eventually this calorimeter will be fully developed and we will solve all the problems."

In addition to receiving this distinguished award, Fernando received a prize of €2,500 for his ENG54 Metrology for Biogas poster detailing the recent developments of this calorimeter.

Underpinning green energy use: Traceable measurements of total silicon in biogas

NPL has developed a new suite of primary reference gas standards containing low level siloxanes in biogas to underpin traceable measurements for this energy sector as part of the EMRP ENG54 Metrology for Biogas project. A novel analytical method capable of measuring low level silicon in biogas is also being developed.
