About DREAMSys

The majority of noise measurements are made using standard condenser microphones in conjunction with conventional equipment such as sound level meters or sound analysers

A key problem with this approach is that the equipment and labour costs and energy consumption requirements inevitably pose a severe constraint on the practicality of large scale noise measurements over a prolonged period, which leads to many compromises in its use. This both reduces the cost-benefit of the measurement approach and is also likely to lead to the cheaper predictive approach being selected in situations where measurements would be far more useful and reliable.

The project consortium has a vision that DREAMSys will overcome current limitations and revolutionise noise measurement practices, through the deployment of a wireless array of low-cost MEMS microphones.

NPL is pursuing this vision through research and development of DREAMSys, by bringing together QinetiQ Ltd, Castle Group Ltd and Hoare Lea Acoustics as the strategic project partners. These partners are all leading experts in their fields.
