Field Trials
Site selection criteria
- Accessibility for deployment
- Prevailing environmental noise levels >40dB(A)
- Exposed to limited number of noise sources
- Subject to road traffic or aircraft noise sources for which the noise levels can be predicted by means of computer modelling
- Risk of vandalism and theft for equipment installed on site
- No insurmountable safety and health hazards to personnel working on the site

N.B. All of the above were deployed since May 2009. The post-mounted units were removed in July 2009 for Wraysbury deployment. Masthead nodes 001 to 007 were retrieved back to the lab in mid-October for re-programming and recalibration, and were re-deployed in mid-November.

The site is close to the direct take-off path of London City airport, the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) and North Woolworth Road. In addition, other noise sources include existing commercial and construction activities and a light industrial operation. All these elements provided a rich acoustical environment for investigation. The site is security patrolled 24/7. Below displays the distribution of the DREAMSys nodes after the phase II deployment.
